Bridging the Gap in the Face of a Looming Liquefied Natural Gas Shortage
The Problem
Global Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) demand is growing ~14% year over year with a major global shortage expected to begin in 2022. Population growth, government regulations focused on lower-carbon energy generation, and economic prosperity in new markets are driving the increased demand. While a vast amount of new LNG capacity is entering the global market over the next five years, with 36.2 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) of liquefaction capacity added in 2018 alone, the additional capacity will be insufficient to meet future global demand.
With a potential near-term LNG supply surplus, LNG end users have been reluctant to enter into long-term contacts. Conversely, LNG producers require long-term contracts in order to build or expand capacity.
Denver LNG aims to bridge the gap by acquiring long-term LNG export capacity and fulfilling end users' short and long term needs.
